Description
Rhea 1a is a digital-to-analog converter combined with a preamplifier function. It is an R2R converter without oversampling (NOS), capable of working in high resolution (Hi-Res). These converters are known for their natural, realistic presentation and non-fatiguing listening.
It is designed for music lovers who prefer to play music via streamers or PC. Therefore, it has a single USB input, which is implemented without compromising on quality, as we would have to do when using multiple digital inputs. Our USB input is galvanically isolated and then the I2S signal is reclocked and fed to the converters. This ensures the elimination of ground loops and enormous immunity to interference and jitter, which is very important especially when playing music from a PC or lower-quality streamers.
Volume control is implemented by influencing the reference voltage of the converters. This means that no potentiometer is used in the analog signal path, nor is the digital side affected. This has a big impact on playback quality. So playback remains “bit-perfect”. Volume control is either via a motorized rotary knob on the device itself, or via a minimalistic but robust remote control.
Each channel of the converter contains four 24-bit R2R ladders, which brings even greater finesse and detail in presentation compared to using only one ladder.
The maximum output analog signal is greater than the standard line level, and therefore Rhea is able to directly drive power stages that have higher demands on the input signal level. Of course, you do not need to use the preamplifier function if you have your own preamplifier or line amplifier connected after the converter. Simply turn the volume control on Rhea to maximum.
Separate audio-grade transformers are used in Rhea for the digital and analog sections. Only linear power supplies are used.
High-purity lead-free audio-grade solder with 5% silver and 2% copper is used for soldering the components. This ensures perfect conductivity and durability of electrical connections and even greater transparency and detail in the presentation of music.
Our products are not mass-produced on a production line. Each original piece is assembled component by component by hand. Each electronic component is tested and measured before installation. After assembly, comprehensive functional testing and parameter measurement follow. Finally, each product is tested in our listening room to make sure that everything is as it should be.

I had it on loan at home for a few days. I am extremely demanding when it comes to DACs. I hold the opinion that “what goes wrong at the beginning of the chain is hard to compensate for later”. I would prefer this DAC, for example, even to the Gustard X30, but also to the Mola Mola Tambaqui (Mola Mola is better than the Gustard X30). For me, a very successful DAC. Especially for those who are interested in R2R DACs, it should be on their radar. (This is a subjective customer opinion, not a statement or recommendation from JAK-AUDIO)

I was pleasantly surprised by the sound of this product. We played it directly via XLR into power amplifiers and then also via the RCA outputs into a preamp. In both cases, an absolutely relaxed sound with a great 3D soundstage. Nothing was disturbing. Delicate highs, plenty of detail, solid deep bass. The advantage of the R2R DAC is that even in critical passages with great dynamics and many instruments, where the soundstage starts to fall apart with other DACs, this DAC handled it with absolute grace, without any hint of soundstage collapse. Personally, I prefer this kind of sound; it is incredibly relaxed listening. The device is definitely worth your attention.

One weekend I had the opportunity to listen to the DAC presented here. I really liked it, the soundstage was nicely presented, nothing was hidden.
